WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

It's important that you read the information provided below before you arrive at the Festival as we want to ensure everyone has a safe and momentous experience at Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga.

Gates open at 7:30am daily

The gates will open each morning at 7:30am from 25 February to 1 March.

We ask everyone to be seated before karakia at 8:15am. The first performance for each day will start at 8:30am.

No photos or video of stage performances

No video recordings or photographs of the stage performances is permitted without prior written authorisation from Te Manatini Enterprises.

Te Matatini is a smokefree, alcohol and drug free event

Remember Te Matatini is an auahikore / smokefree alcohol and drug free events. 

Free Public Transport

There will be FREE public transport options around Taranaki to Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga (Tuesday 25 February to Saturday 1 March).

Go to the Taranaki Regional Council website for more information about the bus services being provided for festival ticket holders.

Parking and Getting Around

Parking is limited so we are encouraging ticket holders to catch buses for free to and from Pukekura Park / Bowl of Brooklands.

​If you are driving, there is general parking available through Gate B on Coronation Avenue (look for the signs).

 

MOBILITY PARKING

 

There will be a mobility parking area which can be accessed through Gate B on Coronation Avenue, New Plymouth (look for the signs). If you require mobility parking during the festival, please complete the form on the Te Matatini website.

BUGGIES

There will be buggies to transport kaumatua and whaikaha from all entry point and with the festival area.

What you can't bring in

You can't bring in

  • camping or similar sized chairs

  • bean bags

  • alcohol, smokes or drugs

  • drones

  • loud audio systems (boom boxes)

  • umbrellas

Para Kore & Minimising Waste

We encourage everyone to bring their own water bottles, reusable coffee cups, and any other items to support this kaupapa. Water dispensers will be located throughout the festival site.

Haka Translate

Enjoy a simultaneous English translation of the action on stage while being performed for all days. For the final's day translations are available in Mandarin, Tongan, Cook Island Māori, Fijian plus an audio description service via the Te Matatini App.

Television Broadcast

Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga 2025 will be broadcast live on TVNZ 2 and live streamed on TVNZ+, with catch-up viewing available on TVNZ+. Viewers can also watch live on Whakaata Māori and online at Māori+.

Seating

To minimise distractions for performing teams, we ask that spectators seated at the front of the stage take their seats before each performance begins.

There is no allocated seating areas due to the unique contour of the venue. All seating is general admission.

There is also no allocated seating for kaumatua but there is a marquee where Pāhake ticket holders can sit, relax and enjoy a refreshment.

Visit the Marketplace

Take a moment to explore the marketplace nestled within scenic Pukekura / Bowl of Brooklands. This bustling area, with 140 stalls and mobile units, is where you can eat, drink, shop, relax while also accessing career advice, education opportunities, and health services. An outdoor zone with a large screen ensures you won't miss a moment of the live performances happening on stage.

The majority of stalls offer EFTPOS facilities; however, some stalls may only accept cash for purchases. There are no ATMs at the venue.

  • cushions (but not bean bags)

  • food and drink

Wristbanding

We are encouraging ticket holders to get wristbanded before arriving at the Festival gates so that you can move quickly through and avoid queues.

To get wristbanded you must present your ticket and go to one of the locations at the advertised time:

WHANGANUI

  • Sport Whanganui, 226 London Street, Whanganui - Sunday 23 February from 9:00am to 5:00pm

 

URENUI

  • Urenui Community Centre, 13 Takiroa Street, Urenui - Sunday 23 February from 9:00am to 5:00pm

NGĀMOTU/NEW PLYMOUTH

  • Centre City, 11 Gill Street, New Plymouth Central - Sunday 23 February from 10:00am to 4:00pm, and on Monday 24 February from 9:00am to 5:30pm
