When is the Festival?

Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga 2025 is being held from Tuesday 25 February 2025 to Saturday 1 March 2025.
 

Qualifiers will be held from 25-28 February 2025 and finals held on 1 March 2025.
 

Where is the festival being held?

Pukekura / Bowl of Brooklands, New Plymouth.

When will gates open?

Qualifying competition days are scheduled to start at 8:30am and gates will be open an hour before. The start time for finals on 1 March 2025 will be advised closer to the event.

Can I take alcohol to the festival?

No. Te Matatini is alcohol, drug and smoke free.

Can I take food into the festival?

Homemade food is fine. There will be a lot of food stalls at the festival for whanau to buy kai. Bringing in takeaway food isn’t allowed.

How many kapa haka groups will there be competing at Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga 2025?

Fifty-five teams have qualified to compete in Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga 2025. This is the highest number of qualifying groups ever.

How much do tickets cost?

We are proud to announce that ticket prices for Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga 2025 will remain unchanged from the 2023 competition, in recognition of the increasing hardship being experienced by whānau across Aotearoa. 

We understand the challenges many whānau are facing and are committed to ensuring that the cultural significance of kapa haka is accessible to everyone.

Can I buy tickets at the gate?

Yes, limited tickets will be available at the gate on the day/s of the event. However, we are expecting a high level of interest, so we recommend tickets are purchased early to avoid disappointment.
 

Are there different types of tickets?

Yes, there are single-day tickets and five-day passes for youth (taitamariki), adult (pakeke), and senior (pāhake). 0-5 years (tātarakihi) are free.
 

There are also five-day campsite bundle tickets available that includes a camping or motorhome site next to the Bowl of Brooklands for six nights from Monday 24 February to Saturday 1 March 2025.
 

Is there a discount for children, students, or seniors?

A discount of up to $50 is available when purchasing a five-day ticket.
 

Are tickets refundable?

Typically, tickets are non-refundable, except in cases where the event is cancelled or postponed. Please check the terms and conditions at the time of purchase.
 

Can I resell my ticket?

Reselling tickets is generally discouraged. Te Matatini may have policies in place regarding ticket transfers and resales, which will be detailed in the terms and conditions. Be cautious when purchasing tickets from unauthorised sellers.
 

Is there reserved seating or general admission?

Seating arrangements, whether reserved or general admission, will be confirmed closer to the event. In previous years, some events had reserved seating options, while others were open seating.
 

Are there accessibility options for attendees with disabilities?

Te Matatini is committed to ensuring the event is accessible to all. Please note that while the venue will have accessible services for wheelchair users, tickets are required for each individual, including those requiring assistance. Information on accessibility services, such as wheelchair access and special viewing areas, will be provided closer to the event.
 

What if my viewing spot has limited visibility?

While some viewing points at the venue may have limited direct stage visibility due to filming, large screens will be positioned throughout the venue to ensure performances can be watched from any location.
 

Are there different types of tickets?

Yes, you can choose between five-day tickets or general admission tickets for individual days.
 

Can I bring my child or infant to the event?

Children under 5 are free to attend Te Matatini 2025 but will need to receive a wristband upon entry. Children above the age of 5 will require a purchased ticket.
 

Are school passes available for Te Matatini 2025?

There are no special school passes available for Te Matatini 2025. All attendees must purchase individual tickets.
 

Will there be a livestream or online option for those who can’t attend in person?

Te Matatini will provide livestream options for those unable to attend in person. Details about any online access will be announced closer to the event.
 

What should I do if I have issues with my ticket purchase?

Are there group discounts available?

There are no group discounts available for Te Matatini 2025. All attendees must purchase individual tickets.

Campsite FAQs

When can I access the campsite?

You can access to the campsite from 10:00am Monday 24 February and must depart the campsite by 11:00am Sunday 2 March 2025.

 

Can I park my vehicle next to my tent?
  • NO, you cannot – due to fire safety regulation, health & safety and space capacity reasons, you will not be allowed to park your vehicle next to your tent.  However, we do have a carpark located nearby for all campers' vehicles.

  • Upon arrival, you may be permitted to drive into the zoned area to unload your gear. If permitted to drive into the zone to unload, your vehicle will need to be moved to the adjacent zoned carpark after unloading. No exceptions.

  • NB: Drive on access to unload is subject to the time of your arrival and the safety of other campers. On arrival follow the guidance and instructions of camp staff.

 

Can I bring food (kai) into the campsite?
  • Āe/Yes, you can bring kai (Food) and non-alcoholic drinks into the campsite.

  • Food stored in the shared refrigeration facilities are stored at your own risk. Te Matatini and its event organizers accept no responsibility for loss, theft or removal of food in shared facilities.

 

Are campsites powered?
  • Kāo/No. We only offer unpowered campsites. Access to power to charge electronic devices will be available in the Camp Office and information Hub.

  • There are no facilities onsite to charge electric vehicles.

 

What facilities are available in the campsite?
  • Shower and toilet facilities.

  • Basic shared cooking (microwave, barbeque and shared refrigeration) and dish wash facilities will be available in the campsite.

  • TSB Stadium is where you will find the Camp Office and Information Hub.
     

Are cooking utensils and cookware supplied?

Kāo/No. You must bring your own cooking utensils, cookware (pots etc), tea towels and dishwashing supplies.

What do I need to know to keep safe in the campsite?

  • The Te Matatini campsite is a whānau-friendly place with a fun atmosphere. We want to ensure our manuhiri are as safe and comfortable as possible. When you buy your Camping Bundle tickets you are agreeing to abide by our camping code of conduct.

  • In the event of anti-social, unruly, unsafe or illegal behaviour, disrespectful and/or violent behaviour towards our team or our volunteers will result in you being denied admittance to the campsite and/or evicted from the campsite. You will not qualify for a refund. Don't spoil it for others. 

  • Noise curfew starts at 10:00pm every night. Failure to adhere to the noise curfew may result in your eviction from the site. Please be respectful to your fellow campers.

  • We have on-site security present to help protect you when you're in the festival and the campsite.

  • To enter the campsite you must present your camping bundle ticket or wristband to the staff at the camp entrance.

  • Weather can impact safety at campsites. High winds and rain are common. Please prepare your campsite by securing any tents, structures or items that may be affected in these conditions.

 

Are there specific entrance gates for different areas of the Campsite?

Yes. Gate B – Coronation Ave, racecourse is the only entrance for all General Campers and Campervans & Motorhomes. Gate entrances will be marked please ensure you check in at the correct gate.

 

Are there specific zones for different areas of the Campsite?

Yes. Zones are coloured on the campsite map. You must choose a zone to camp in. Individual sites are not assigned on purchase. These will be allocated on a first come first-served basis.

 

I want to camp next to whanau and friends who are arriving after me. Can I save a spot for them?

No, if you wish to camp together you should choose the same zone to camp in and arrange to arrive together.

 

Where is the Campsite Office?

The campsite office is located at the TSB Stadium. At the campsite office, you can access power cords to charge your mobile phones and vapes etc. You will also find the campsite information office and the management team.

 

Can I charge my Electric Vehicle at the campsite?

No, electric vehicles cannot be charged at the campsite or from the campsite office or other campsite facilities. 

 

MOTORHOME CAMP

When can I access the Campsite Motorhome Zone?
  • Access to the campsite starts from 10 am Monday 24 February 2025.

  • All campers must depart the campsite by 11 am on Sunday 2 March 2025.

 

Are the Motorhome Campsites Powered?

No, all campsites are unpowered.  Access to power to charge electronic devices will be available in the Camp Office and information Hub.
 

There are no facilities onsite to charge electric vehicles.
 

Are there different areas of the Motorhome zones?

Yes. Zones are coloured on the campsite map. You must choose a zone to camp in. Individual sites are not assigned however vehicles must not exceed 10m x 5m. These will be allocated on arrival on a first-come-first-served basis within your chosen zone.

What sort of vehicle can I bring into the Motorhome Camp?

RVS, motorhomes, caravans, sleepervans, house buses and trucks are all welcome.

All vehicles must not exceed 10m in length and 5m in width.

 

Can I pitch my tent in the Motorhome Camp?

No! No tents! All tents must go in the General, Family, or Accessibility areas. Having tents in the motorhome camp is a safety hazard.

 

What facilities are available in the Motorhome Zone?
  • Shower and toilet facilities.

  • Basic shared cooking (microwave, barbeque and shared refrigeration) and dish wash facilities will be available in the campsite.

  • TSB Stadium is where you will find the Camp Office and Information Hub.

Are there dump stations onsite?

No, there are no facilities onsite to dump your waste from your campervan/motorhome.

 

Are there specific entrance gates for different areas of the Campsite?

We also encourage Motorhome campers to follow some safety-first steps including having on board a smoke alarm, ABE dry-powder extinguisher and a fire blanket.
