Te Matatini socialchannels rack up 21.5 million views

Demand on social media for news and updates about Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga has been as intense as the competition on stage at the biennial national kapa haka competition.

As of 7.30am, Saturday, March 1, there had been 21.5 million views related to Te Matatini over the past four days across the major social media platforms Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.

Te Matatini’s social media following also increased by 32,000 new followers during the same period.

In terms of the Te Matatini app, there had been 23,400 new installs of it on iOS, and 14,000 installations via Android.

In terms of unique requests regarding the app, Firebase analytics registered 46,000 users.

Of the top three features of the Te Matatini app, the festival screen recorded 1.4 million interactions, the Haka Translate function had 460,000 interactions, with 300,000 of those actual streams.

Content related to the teams received 306,000 interactions.

Meanwhile, the official anthem of Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga made history on Friday, February 28, when the te reo Māori and bi-lingual versions were consecutively ranked number one and two on the Official Aotearoa Music Chart (Hot Aotearoa 20 singles category).

Kua Kotahi Rā, a waiata by Corella and Te Matatini, was listed number one, while We Belong, performed by Corella and L.A.B, was in second spot.
